To UNHCR -Greek National Commission for Human Right

Dear Sir/Madam                                                         Date:23/11/2020

RE:  Demanding support 21 Iraqi Kurdish refugees held in Korinthos detention Centre

I am writing you this letter on behalf of the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees (IFIR) regarding 21 Iraqi Kurdish refugees held in Korinthos detention center in a very poor condition with limited water and food being in an unsafe health environment. They have applied for asylum but the authorities didn’t respond to them hence why they were on hunger strike from Monday 16th November 2020 to 21th November 2020.

The Kurdish refugees were fled from Iraq because lived under the power of PUK and KDP for three decades, during this time people have lived through poverty, unemployment, corruption and deprived of any rights living unsafe coming from Turkey to Greece seeking a better and secure life away from the dangers of their country as well as providing their families with a healthier future, so it would be of the best possible solution to respond to these refugees and prevent deportation in any manner.

These refugees being deported is dangerous as they have a certain political alignment that some of these refugees hold that’ll make them a target for powerful parties in Iraq. Therefore, IFIR urges that these refugees are treated fairly on a humanitarian basis whereby their rights are taken into consideration to provide them with safest possible solution to allow them to live a life of security and well-being.

IFIR asks the Greek National Commission for Human Right and UNHCR to take urgent action with the 21 Iraqi Kurdish refugees to support the demands of the refugees by accepting their asylum claims and to release them from the detention center and make sure the refugees are in a safe manner far away from their dangerous countries and aren’t sent back to Iraq.

 Kind Regards,

Dashty Jamal

General Secretary of International Federation of Iraqi Refugees (IFIR
