On the anniversary of the
murder Kurdish journalist Sardasht Osman,
International Federation of Iraqi Refugees-IFIR
& Freedom Umbrella are holding a public
meeting in the House of Commons.
The meeting will discuss
press freedom, as well as the current
attacks on the right to demonstrate In
Kurdistan. Sardasht Osman was a journalist
and university student. He was murdered for
writing an article critical of Massoud
Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region
and his Kurdish Democratic Party. No-one has
been brought to justice for this crime. His
killing is symptomatic of the repression of
journalists.
Press freedom and freedom of
expression has been one of the demands of
the on-going uprising in Kurdistan, inspired
by events in Tunisia and Egypt.
