{"id":468,"date":"2017-04-16T20:26:18","date_gmt":"2017-04-16T20:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.federationifir.com\/en\/?p=468"},"modified":"2017-04-16T20:26:18","modified_gmt":"2017-04-16T20:26:18","slug":"demonstration-against-forcible-deportation-to-iraq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.federationifir.com\/en\/2017\/04\/16\/demonstration-against-forcible-deportation-to-iraq\/","title":{"rendered":"Demonstration against forcible deportation to Iraq"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">On Thursday 13th April, the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees (IFIR) held a picket in front of the Home Office in London.\u00a0<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The protest was against the arrest and detention of 30 Iraqi and Kurdish asylum seekers.\u00a0<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Those arrested have lived in the UK for as long as 17 years, and one of those detained has two young children with his long term partner in the UK.\u00a0<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The detainees have been informed they will be removed from the UK in the next 7 to 10 days.\u00a0<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>IFIR fears this means the UK Government is preparing the first forcible deportation charter flight since 2011.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The picket was attended by approximately 100 people made up of family members and friends of those held, the Iraqi community, PCS activists and human and refugee rights campaigners.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Michael Chessum from Another Europe is Possible introduced speakers. Jean Lambert, Green Party MEP for London,\u00a0<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>spoke of how deplorable it was that the UK Government would even think of deporting to Iraq at this time, when parts of Iraq were still caught up in the war against ISIS.<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Dashty Jamal, secretary of IFIR, thanked those attending, andinformed the protest of a forced deportation that happened<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"gmail-aqj\">on Tuesday<\/span>, when one of the detainees was<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>was put in hand cuffs and leg irons and locked in the toilet of an aircraft for several hours, and<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>was only released when the plane landed in Baghdad.\u00a0<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>He reported that IFIR has written to Amber Rudd, the Home Secretary, demanding the immedate release of all Iraqi detainees; an end to all deporations to Iraq; refugee status for all Iraqi refugees; and an end to the deportation agreement with the Iraqi government.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Other speakers included PCS representatives Karen Johnson and Charlie Mcdonald; Momentum activist Liam McNulty;<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Right to Remain activist Marienna Pope-Widemann;<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Worker Communist Party of Kurdistan activist Noori Basher<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">; a<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">nd community rights activists<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Khaled Asinger<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>and<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Zana Sherwany.<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The protest was lively, with Kurdish and English slogans chanted, including:<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">No deportations to Iraq;\u00a0<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>forcible deportation is a violation of human rights legislation; Iraqi refugees are a victim of war and violence; refugee rights are human rights;\u00a0<span class=\"gmail-apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>release all Kurdish &amp; Iraqi detainees; Iraqi refugees say we are victims of state and non-state terrorism;
