Dana Mhamed Abdula, an Iraqi Kurd, is currently on hunger strike in Colebrook Detention centre<\/strong>. Dana, a 34 year old father, has been living in the UK for 17 years and has 4 children here. He has been repeatedly refused refugee status. On Thursday morning, Dana stitched his mouth in protest against his treatment.<\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/span><\/h3>\n

Supporters are calling for Dana to be immediately released and granted refugee status so he and his family can live their lives without fear of deportation.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Dashty Jamal Secretary International Federation of Iraqi Refugees-IFIR said \u201cThe UK Government\u2019s policy on detention and deportation is further harming many Iraqi and Kurdish asylum seekers who have built a secure family life in the UK. People deported are separated from their families, friends and communities, and are often returned to unsafe situations.\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n

The situation in Iraq is unstable, with militia rule, corruption and mass protests against the economic and social conditions. The International Federation of Iraqi Refugees has been involved in recent cases where one Iraqi refugee was killed after being deported from the UK and another committed suicide. Two Iraqi Kurdish asylum seekers have committed suicide in the UK under threat of deportation. \u201cWe need to stand against this inhuman policy,\u201d said Dashty Jamal.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Please write to the UKBA demanding that he be released from the detention centre and granted refugee status immediately.<\/span><\/h3>\n
