We congratulate all women and men on March 8, as a day which marks the protest against gender inequality, discrimination and oppression against women. Despite the fact that some individual and civil rights and basic demands of women have been achieved in some advanced countries as the result of the relentless struggle by the working class and the progressive movements, oppression, discrimination and violence against women continue under the capitalist system. Therefore, the struggle to end economic and social gender inequality is inseparable from the struggle to overthrow the capitalist system and build a free and equal society free of gender discrimination and oppression.
International Federation of Iraqi Refugees-IFIR understands that the Iraqi Government has threatened to dissolve Organisation of Women’s Freedom in Iraq (OWFI). The General secretariat of the Iraqi council of ministers have also filed a lawsuit against the president of OWFI.

The International Federation of Iraqi Refugees-IFIR was contacted by the concerned families who fear that their family members may have drowned. They say they spoke to their family members one hour before they boarded a boat on the 11 January 2020, which was heading for the Italian coast. Unfortunately the boat ran into trouble by Paxi a Greek island. The boat reported to have 53 people on board took on water and sank near Paxi. We understand that six coast guard patrol boats, two navy helicopters and four passing cargo ships have been engaged in the continuing rescue of the refugees. We have been informed that the Greek Coast Guard has rescued 21 people and found a further 12 bodies.

IFIR Press Release
International Federation of Iraqi Refugees (IFIR) was informed by Mr Karwan that he and his pregnant wife and two children (who are only three and one years old) have been held in Zurich airport since the 12 October 2019. Mr Karwan is very unwell and has cancer.

39 bodies were found inside a truck at Waterglade Industrial Park near Grays Essex at 01.40 on
Wednesday morning. The people are believed to be refugees who were seeking safety in the UK.
The truck is believed to have docked in the UK at 1230am Purfleet a dock along the River
Thames.The lorry started its journey in Bulgaria. The driver Mo Robinson a 25 year old from
Portadown, Ireland has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The Lorry arrived via ferry from
Zeebrugge, Belgium.
After the killing of Osman Kosa, an employee at the Turkish consulate working at the Iran desk of Turkey’s national spy agency on 17th July 2019 in the Huqqabaz restaurant in Arbil.The security forces of Arbil are besieging the Makhmour Camp of refugees for more than a month now.
