Protest letter to Greek authorities 42 Refugees brutally Assaulted and tortured by the Greek border police
by ifir web
written by ifir web
Our Turkish representative reported to us that on 28 June, 42 refugees on the Greek border with Turkey were stripped naked, following arrest by Greek police. The Greek police confiscated all of the refugees belongings. This act of theft happened after the Greek Police interrogated the refugees leaving them confused and frightened. The Greek police then passed the refugees minus their belongings to the Turkish authorities. By this action the Greek Port police treated the refugees in an unlawful manner violating both the European Court of Human Rights and the Geneva Convention of Refugee Rights.
Huge waves of millions of refugees have been forced to flee there homes. The refugee crisis is a continuing world wide catastrophe unrelated to a specific area or country. This phenomenon is due to conflicts between blocks of imperialist countries aiming to divide areas of authority in order to find markets for their products.
Military intervention, economic sanctions, a political gap, war and proxy wars by states, groups, mercenary parties, and terrorist groups have worsened this in humane situation. So, war, safety, nationality hatred between people has led to forced compulsory migration of refugees including the refugees that fled to Greece, hoping to distance themselves from their war-torn and poverty-driven countries.
IFIR condemns the actions of the Port police and asks that the:
Greek Authorities launch a formal investigation against the perpetrators; stop deporting refugees; respect the human rights of refugees under EU and international law; treat all refugees in a humane way thus ensuring this occurrence is not repeated.

A refugee’s suicide by setting himself on fire is a black stain on the record of the UNHCR

Today, May 18,2021, an Iranian refugee 25 year old Behzad Mahmoudi set himself on fire in front of the main UN’s office in the city of Erbil. Reporters who witnessed this demonstrated a complete lack of conscience. This shocking human tragedy was broadcasted live through the cameras of the media outlets which belong to the Kurdistan Regional Government, but the screams and whines of this refugee did not reach the ears of those psychopaths who watched the incident.

RE: Demanding Urgent action regarding 27 Iranian refugees facing deportation back to Iran
I am writing you this letter on behalf of the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees (IFIR) regarding the boat carrying 57 passengers from different nationalities including Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Egypt that was rescued by the Egyptian Navy on the 21st October 2020. These refugees have been travelling from Turkey in search for a better life far from their original countries that has kept them feeling unsafe and insecure. According to our sources, these refugees were being held in Egypt in Matruh Port since the boat sinking and on the 10th of November the Iraqi and Iranian refugees were moved to Qahera separating the 25 Iraqi refugees by handcuffing and taking them to the Iraqi embassy and the Iranian refugees to the Iranian Embassy.
IFIR asked the Egyptian authorities:
1- The 57 passengers are dealt with as refugees rather than just instantly being sent back to their countries where their lives will be at a huge risk especially in Iran where they will be executed. This comes with the certain political alignment that some of these refugees hold that’ll make them a target for powerful parties in countries such as Iraq and Iran.
2- greatly appreciate that an update is given on the refugees, as their families are extremely worried about their current condition as some haven’t been in contact with their loved ones since before the incident occurred where these refugees were trying to go from Turkey to Italy, so it would be great for the families to have a chance to communicate with their families.
3- IFIR urges that these refugees are treated fairly on a humanitarian basis whereby their rights are taken into consideration to provide them with safest possible solution to allow them to live a life of security and well-being.
So far none of these demands have been fulfilled. IFIR have been informed that the 27 Iranian refugees held in detention center in Qahera in a poor condition with no water and food. Also, they separated women and children and pressurized them to agree go back to Iran which will lead them to face death. The refugees also asked for an interpreter but the Egyptian authorities are refusing to do so.

Dear Guiseppe Conte – Italian Prime Minister
I am writing you this letter on behalf of the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees (IFIR) regarding the boat carrying 57 passengers from different nationalities including Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Egypt that was rescued by the Egyptian Navy on the 23rd October 2020.
My name is Dashty Jamal and I am the Secretary of International Federation of Iraqi Refugees (IFIR). IFIR is a refugee, humanitarian, political and social organisation; we have organised a wide variety of activities in many European countries, Australia, Canada, Kurdistan and Iraq. For more than 25 years IFIR has helped Kurdish, Iraqi asylum seekers, and other refugees. IFIR also has good relationships with many refugee and political organisations.
I understand that you offered a place of safety to the Refugees in Italy. Unfortunately, Egypt is now threatening to turn the refugees from Iran over to the Iranian embassy. I ask that you contact Egypt offering to help the affected refugees. If these refugees are deported back to Iran the Iranian state will interrogate the refugees and execute them.
IFIR urges that these refugees are treated fairly on a humanitarian basis whereby their rights are taken into consideration to provide them with safest possible solution to allow them to live a life of security and well-being.
We ask that you contact the Egyptian authorities asking them to respect the right of the refugees and repeat your offer of a safe place for the refugees in Italy.
Yours faithfully,
Dashty Jamal

International Federation of Iraqi Refugees Press Release:
UK & French Authorities responsible for the death of children in the English Channel
On Tuesday a Kurdish family including a fifteen-month-old boy (yet to be found) an eight-year-old child and a six year old were among the people who died when their small boat sank off the coast of Dunkirk in northern France.
According to information from IFIR’s correspondent in France the Iranian Kurdish families from Sardasht with other fifteen refugees were taken to hospital.
Dashty Jamal Secretary of International Federation of Iraqi Refugees-IFIR said French & UK authorities are responsible for the death of the child refugees, as authorities in EU refuse claims for asylum from refugees. People are sent away from these developed countries and are forced back into the ‘jungle’, where they have no choice but to take a risk with their lives and use the small boats of the smugglers to cross the English Channel. These refugees have escaped war, poverty, and corruption from ruling parties. They are deprived of any rights living unsafe and insecurely. They are the victims of a proxy war by the powers in their countries.
Further to this Dashty asks that the EU leaders and UK authorities:
Take action to transfer the refugees from the camp and take equal responsibility in sharing them across European countries; implementing the planned resettlement of refugees in the receiving countries and reintegrate those refugees who have family members in the UK”
Dashty also sent “condolences to the Kurdish family’s friends and family for this sad tragedy”
Our correspondent has reported that there are more than 500 refugees at Dunkirk Port, Northern France from a range of different countries including Kurdistan, Iranian, Iraqi, Afghan, African and Vietnam. The refugees are living in very bad and dangerous conditions in the refugee camps, where they wait to attempt a crossing to the UK. These refugees include other families, children, women and old people all of whom are forced to live in tents. An elderly man was taken to the hospital due to the camps horrendous conditions, and tragically died on the 25th October
In 2019, two Iraqi Kurdish seekers also died attempting to cross the English Channel in an inflatable boat. The use of dangerous inflatable boats is becoming common use for refugees attempting to cross the Channel. This is clearly unsafe. However, unfortunately refugees are willing to take any risk seeking a safe life free from the problems of war and its aftermath that they are escaping from.

30 Kurdish Asylum Seekers in Brook House Detention Centre on hunger strike against deportation

IFIR Press Release
30 Kurdish Asylum Seekers in Brook House Detention Centre on hunger strike against deportation
According to the Kurdish Asylum Seekers in the Brookhouse Immigration Removal Centre in London, 30 Kurdish Asylum Seekers are being threatened to be forcibly deported and are protesting by refusing meals and going on hunger strike today (26th October 2020).
IFIR has been informed that a number of these people have relatives and family in the UK. They have been forced to leave European Countries for fear of being deported back to Iraq hence why they have come to the UK, their asylum claim has been refused in the European countries. As a result they had no choice but to come to the UK.
IFIR believes the Home Office threat to forcibly deport these people contravenes the following decision of the Court of Appeal summarised below:
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/oct/21/appeal-court-quashes-uk-policy-of-removing-migrants-unlawfully
IFIR is asking the freedom loving people and Refugee Right and Human Right Organizations to support those who are seeking asylum to not be forcibly deported and protect these refugees from the difficult situation we face from Covid-19.
